Uzbekistan repatriates 50 women deported from Turkey over migration violations

The Migration Agency has issued a warning to Uzbek citizens working illegally in Turkey, urging them to legalize their status to avoid deportation. Meanwhile, 50 women have already been repatriated, and another 28 are awaiting return.

According to the press service of the Migration Agency, 50 Uzbek women held in deportation centers in Turkey for violating migration laws have been returned home.

The airfare was covered by a fund affiliated with the agency. For another 28 women, certificates of return to Uzbekistan have been issued and the repatriation process has begun.

The agency also reported that negotiations were held with Turkey’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection regarding the legalization of Uzbek nationals residing in the country without legal status.

The Turkish authorities approved a proposal to register and issue residence and work permits to undocumented Uzbek nationals without applying administrative penalties.

An agreement was also reached to grant legal status to citizens working informally in sectors such as elderly and childcare, as well as agriculture.

Additionally, both countries agreed to draft a new intergovernmental agreement on “Social Protection.”

The agency urged Uzbek citizens to work in Turkey legally and comply with the country’s laws. Those already working illegally were encouraged to undergo legalization.

"The Turkish government is taking strict measures against illegal migration, but in certain sectors (domestic services, childcare and eldercare, animal husbandry), special provisions for legalization are available," the agency noted.

However, such provisions are not yet formalized through official government documentation and apply only to individuals who meet specific conditions:

  • Possession of a valid biometric international passport with at least one year of validity;
  • A notarized letter of guarantee from the employer confirming job placement;
  • Employer’s monthly income must be no less than 132,000 Turkish lira;
  • No prior record of detention in deportation centers;
  • No entry ban to Turkey;
  • No criminal record.

Citizens planning to work in these sectors may apply to the migration office to obtain a temporary residence permit.
