Under a joint resolution issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Health, changes have been introduced to the financing mechanism for treatment and prevention institutions providing paid medical services.

According to the new regulation, the pricing of medical services must not exceed the cost price of the service plus a profitability margin of more than 20%.

Previously, under the rules effective until May 8, the maximum payment for a medical service could not exceed 25% of the cost of the same service provided by the institution using budgetary funds.

According to economist Otabek Bakirov, this change could lead to a 4.8-fold increase in the prices of paid services in public hospitals.

He explained that under the previous regulation, a medical service costing 100,000 UZS could be priced at 25,000 UZS. Under the new rules, the payment for a service with a 100,000 UZS cost must not exceed 120,000 UZS.

Kun.uz contacted the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Health for comments on the matter but did not receive a response.
