Since the start of 2025, Uzbekistan has generated more than 2 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green electricity, according to a report from the Ministry of Energy's press service.
As of 3:30 PM on April 12, the total volume of electricity produced by solar and wind power plants had surpassed 2 billion kWh. Currently, 11 solar power plants (SPPs) and 3 wind power plants (WPPs) with a combined capacity of 4.06 GW are operational across 10 regions of the country.
Out of the total green energy generated, solar power plants produced 1.16 billion kWh, while wind power plants generated 830.1 million kWh. The Ministry of Energy noted that in under 3.5 months, wind farms produced more electricity than they did throughout all of 2024 (799 million kWh).
For comparison, solar power plants in the Navoi and Samarkand regions produced 434 million kWh in 2022 and 576.9 million kWh in 2023. Last year, the total green electricity output from 9 SPPs and 1 WPP across 7 regions amounted to 4.86 billion kWh.
The Ministry highlights the following benefits of this progress:
- 600 million cubic meters of natural gas saved;
- Avoided emissions of more than 1,170 tons of carbon dioxide and 1.17 tons of nitrogen oxides.
Including output from hydropower plants, the total volume of green electricity produced by April 12 exceeded 3.7 billion kWh.
As a result, the country:
- Saved 1.11 billion cubic meters of natural gas;
- Prevented the release of 2.17 million tons of CO₂ and 2.17 thousand tons of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere.
According to the Ministry of Energy, this volume of green electricity is enough to meet four months’ worth of consumption for 4.63 million households, or the annual consumption of 1.54 million households.
