Tashkent launches real-time ambulance tracking system to boost transparency

A new pilot project has been launched in Tashkent, allowing residents to track the real-time location and estimated arrival time of an ambulance responding to their emergency call.

The initiative was introduced by the Republican Center for Emergency Medical Services (RCEMS) with the support of a technological solution developed by Yandex Uzbekistan. Users will be able to follow the movement of the ambulance on a map via a web browser and, in the future, through the Yandex Go mobile app.

After an emergency call is made, the system will automatically send an SMS with a link to a live map showing the ambulance’s current location. In the next phase of the project, users will receive a push notification from Yandex Go with the vehicle’s real-time position and expected arrival time.

The project is aimed at improving transparency in emergency medical services and reducing the burden on dispatchers.

According to RCEMS, dispatchers across Uzbekistan receive up to 40,000 incoming calls per day, around 60% of which are emergency cases.

“Digitalization helps make services more transparent and accessible to the public. We hope that the ability to track the ambulance’s location will help residents prepare in advance and reduce the load on dispatchers. At this stage, the service is available for emergency calls within Tashkent, but we are considering expanding it further,” said Abduvoitjon Gafurov, Director of the Republican Center for Emergency Medical Services.
