Chinese company may build data centers in Bukhara and Surkhandarya

Chinese firm Shanghai LinkWise Data Intelligence Co. is considering the construction of two large-scale data centers in Uzbekistan, each with a capacity of 300 MW, the Ministry of Energy’s press service reported.

On July 24, Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov received a delegation from the company. During the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a data center with a 300 MW load in the Bukhara region.

A second data center of the same scale is also planned for the Surkhandarya region.

The meeting also covered ongoing projects by Chinese companies in Uzbekistan’s energy sector and their future prospects. The parties agreed to accelerate all necessary steps for implementing the project outlined in the signed MoU.

Broader context: Uzbekistan’s growing data infrastructure ambitions

In early June, Saudi company DataVolt announced the launch of a project to build the region’s largest green data center in Uzbekistan. The company, one of the leading players in the data infrastructure market, plans to invest $6.5 billion by 2030, with Uzbekistan selected as its key location in Central Asia.

The first phase of the project has already begun at the IT Park in Tashkent. The second phase is scheduled for Bukhara.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev earlier stated that a national cloud technology platform is expected to launch in 2026. In collaboration with investors, Uzbekistan aims to build 20 data centers with a combined capacity of over 500 MW.

All data centers are planned to operate on green energy and receive international green certification – a critical factor for hyperscale clients seeking to minimize environmental impact, according to First Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies Oleg Pekos.
