British MPs form new group to strengthen ties with Central Asia

For the first time in its history, the UK Parliament has launched an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) focused on Central Asia.

The newly established group will be chaired by Pamela Cox, a Member of the House of Commons.

The APPG includes 20 influential members of both houses of the UK Parliament, among them Lord Alderdice, the Prime Minister’s Special Trade Envoy to Central Asia and Azerbaijan, and Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

During a meeting between representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London and Pamela Cox, the UK expressed its interest in further developing and strengthening relations with the countries of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan.

It was emphasized that the group will serve as an additional mechanism to enhance inter-parliamentary dialogue and facilitate the implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects in areas of shared interest.

An agreement was reached to accelerate practical efforts aimed at fully realizing the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation. In particular, both sides agreed to foster collaboration between the new APPG and the Friendship Group with the United Kingdom established under Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis (parliament).
