Andijan court jails labor migrant for joining Russian armed forces
A 40-year-old man who had spent four years working as a labor migrant in Russia was sentenced in Uzbekistan after joining the Russian military and participating in the war in Ukraine.

The Izboskan District Court of the Andijan region reviewed the criminal case of H.Kh., born in 1985, as reported by a UzNews.uz correspondent citing the court's verdict.
According to case materials, in June 2019, H.Kh. traveled to Russia as a labor migrant. In October 2023, he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and underwent military training. In July and August 2024, he took part in military operations against Ukraine in the Luhansk region and the city of Vovchansk, where he sustained injuries.
After receiving treatment at Russian military hospitals, he illegally crossed the state border and returned to Uzbekistan.
In court, the defendant fully admitted his guilt, provided detailed testimony about the circumstances of the case, expressed remorse, and confirmed that he had obtained a Russian passport without renouncing his Uzbek citizenship.
The court found H.Kh. guilty under:
- Part 1 of Article 154 (Participation in the armed forces of another state),
- Part 1 of Article 154-1 (Serving in a foreign military),
- Part 1 of Article 223 (Illegal border crossing) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Based on Article 59 of the Criminal Code (Sentencing for multiple offenses), he was sentenced to 3 years and 1 month in prison. He will serve his sentence in a general-regime correctional colony.
It was also reported that the convicted man’s confiscated phone will be destroyed.
