Uzbekistan to launch new project to produce fuel from waste

A new project aimed at managing hazardous industrial waste and converting it into fuel will be implemented in Uzbekistan in collaboration with companies from Saudi Arabia and France.

According to the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, a partnership agreement has been signed with Vision International Investment Company (VIIC) from Saudi Arabia and Suez International from France.

The agreement outlines joint efforts to develop and implement a promising project for managing hazardous industrial waste. The project is valued at $78 million and will be carried out in three phases:

  1. Phase One: Establishment of facilities for stabilizing waste, landfilling complexes, and regional transfer stations.
  2. Phase Two: Development of a pre-engineering design for equipment to produce refuse-derived fuel (RDF), incineration facilities, and a thermal treatment plant, followed by pilot testing.
  3. Phase Three: Construction and commissioning of a full-scale RDF production and thermal treatment facility.

Suez International is a French company with over 160 years of experience, specializing in water and waste management. It provides global solutions for water supply and purification, wastewater management, and waste recycling — including the handling of hazardous waste.
