“Traffic cameras should help reduce jams and accidents, not just issue fines” – President Mirziyoyev
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that traffic cameras installed on roads should serve not just to record violations and issue fines, but also to help reduce congestion and prevent accidents. According to him, the public is “completely dissatisfied” with the quality of public transportation and the ongoing problem of traffic jams.

Speaking at a video conference on June 16, President Mirziyoyev criticized the current state of road infrastructure and transport management in the country.
He noted that over the past seven years, 61 trillion UZS has been allocated for road construction and repair, with the majority of that funding going toward international and national highways. However, 75–80% of fatal traffic accidents also occur on these same roads.
The president highlighted that the public’s dissatisfaction extends beyond poor public transportation services to the location and function of road cameras. He pointed out that these cameras are currently being used solely to register violations and impose fines.
In his view, these cameras should instead contribute to managing traffic flow, reducing congestion, and minimizing accidents.
The president also criticized the slow progress in improving intersections, road markings, and signage, as well as the failure to upgrade traffic lights to intelligent management systems.
He further noted that although a presentation was held some time ago on using artificial intelligence to regulate traffic flow in the capital, there have been no tangible results since then.
