Illegal energy use costs Uzbekistan over 471 billion UZS in damages in early 2025
Large-scale theft and misuse of natural gas and electricity have been uncovered since the beginning of the year, according to oversight inspections in Uzbekistan’s energy sector.

According to “Uzenergoinspeksiya,” from January to June 2025, inspections revealed 1,094 cases of illegal consumption of natural gas and electricity by consumers.
As a result of these violations, total damage to state interests amounted to 471.2 billion UZS.
In addition, 1,788 administrative cases were officially documented for breaches related to the unauthorized use of energy resources, and legal measures were taken in accordance with existing legislation.
In May 2025 alone, 229 cases of illegal energy consumption were identified, resulting in damages totaling 94.887 billion UZS.
Specifically, these violations led to the theft of approximately 35.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity (equivalent to about 57.9 billion UZS) and 13.2 million cubic meters of natural gas (worth approximately 36.9 billion UZS).
As part of these enforcement efforts, 448 administrative cases were filed against consumers who violated energy usage rules, and the relevant documents were submitted to law enforcement agencies for further action.
