Perceived inflation in Uzbekistan hits 14.4% in April

In April, perceived inflation among the population reached 14.4%, with the majority of survey respondents pointing to sharp increases in the prices of meat, dairy products, electricity, and natural gas. More people also reported noticeable price hikes in vegetable oil, medicines, construction materials, restaurant services, and medical care.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has released the results of its monthly survey measuring perceived inflation levels among the general public and business entities for April.

According to the findings, the perceived inflation rate stood at 14.4%. Regionally, the highest perceived inflation was reported in Tashkent city (18.2%) and Andijan region (16.4%), while the lowest was in Navoi region (12.8%) and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (12.4%).

A majority of respondents indicated significant increases in the prices of meat, dairy, electricity, and natural gas.

Additionally, there was a rise in the share of people who noticed sharp price increases in fuel, fruits and vegetables, vegetable oil, medicines, construction materials, restaurant and café services, medical services, rent, education, sugar and confectionery, renovation services, and other household services.

Notably, perceived inflation was higher among those without income and among people earning over 5 million UZS per month. For those earning more than 15 million UZS, the perceived inflation rate reached 19.6%.

Earlier reports had stated that the official annual inflation rate in the consumer sector for April was 10.1%. This indicates a 4.3 percentage point gap between perceived and official inflation.
