Russia commits to ensuring rights of Uzbek migrants in a new agreement

A delegation of Uzbek ministries and agencies, led by Deputy Prosecutor General Shokhrukh Aminov, participated in the April 29 meeting focused on labor migration and the protection of migrants’ rights, according to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan.

The Russian delegation, led by Deputy Prosecutor General Pyotr Gorodov, included representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Federal Security Service, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs, and other agencies.

The Uzbek delegation was comprised of officials from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Security Service, the Migration Agency, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, and Health.

During the event, the parties discussed the current situation in the field of migration, existing challenges, and possible solutions. Participants agreed to develop joint measures aimed at ensuring legality in the migration sphere, taking into account the interests of both countries.

“In addition, the Prosecutor General’s Offices of Uzbekistan and Russia undertook the obligation to enhance monitoring and oversight of the observance of rights during the process of Uzbek citizens entering Russia for employment purposes, as well as during Russian citizens’ visits to Uzbekistan,” the statement said.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the heads of both delegations signed a protocol reflecting the decisions adopted during the first session of the Uzbekistan–Russia interdepartmental working group on labor migration and migrant rights.

The implementation of the signed protocol will be placed under special supervision by the Prosecutor General’s Offices of both Uzbekistan and Russia.
