Uzbekistan Railways to launch new Tashkent–Khiva train on April 26

Starting April 26, Uzbekistan Railways will launch a new passenger train connecting Tashkent and Khiva, the company’s press service announced.

On April 24, a ceremony was held at the Central (Northern) Railway Station to commission the new train, which will operate on the Tashkent–Khiva–Tashkent route.

The train consists of 10 carriages: four third-class (platzkart) cars with 56 seats each, four second-class (compartment) cars with 36 seats each, and two first-class (SV) cars with 18 seats each. In total, the train can accommodate 396 passengers.

According to Uzbekistan Railways, the train is expected to carry more than 144,500 passengers annually. Over the next two years, 70 more similar carriages are set to be produced, gradually replacing older passenger trains and increasing overall capacity to over one million passengers.

In late March, it was reported that the Tashkent Plant for the Construction and Repair of Passenger Carriages had launched the production of a new generation of rolling stock. The manufacture of the new compartment and platzkart cars was initiated at the direction of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The new 61−950 and 61−951 models, each 26 meters long, are equipped with:

• Sleeping berths
• Individual remote controls for air temperature in each compartment
• Adjustable heaters
• Modern electric kettles
• Phone charging ports
• Eco-friendly toilets
• Video surveillance systems
