The import of vehicles under the Leapmotor brand into Uzbekistan has been conditionally approved. This was announced by the Agency for Technical Regulation and UzTest Center after a second round of testing conducted on April 14 at a laboratory in Piskent yielded positive results.

In order to gain market access, Leapmotor must meet the following requirements:

•  Appoint an official representative — a legal entity and resident of Uzbekistan — responsible for addressing any identified vehicle deficiencies and compensating consumers for damages;
•  Submit all required documentation for the type approval of each vehicle model imported into Uzbekistan under the Leapmotor trademark.

Additionally, the company has committed to conducting an internal review and assessment of the production processes and conditions at the factories manufacturing vehicles under the Leapmotor brand.

To recall, in late March, the issuance of conformity certificates for all Leapmotor models was suspended after tests revealed that the Leapmotor C16 electric vehicle produced electromagnetic noise levels 16 times above the permissible limit. However, on April 14, a different unit of the same model underwent re-testing, and the results met regulatory standards.

It’s worth noting that the requirement to import new foreign vehicles exclusively through official dealers was lifted by a presidential decree on January 1, 2023, but was reinstated in April 2024.
