Since the runway has been in use for a long time — since 1983 — the airport will undergo extensive reconstruction and renovation to ensure the safety of aircraft landings and takeoffs.
Specifically, the surface of the 1,554-meter-long runway will be replaced and reinforced. Additionally, the upper layer of the taxiway will also be repaired. Based on the results of the selection process, the construction and repair work will be carried out by the Fergana Road Maintenance Enterprise.
Shahrisabz Airport previously had limited capacity for receiving aircraft, with flights operating only twice a week using small L-410 planes. After the runway renovation, the airport will be able to accommodate modern ATR-72 aircraft for medium-range flights up to three times a week.
