Uzbekistan to continue supplying electricity to Afghanistan through 2025

Uzbekistan has extended its electricity supply agreement with Afghanistan’s state energy company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), ensuring uninterrupted power delivery until the end of 2025.

The agreement, signed on December 17 in Uzbekistan, was formalized by DABS Chief Executive Officer Abdul Bari Omar and Jakhongir Obidjonov, Chairman of the Board of Uzenergosotish JSC. While the terms of the deal, including volume and pricing, have not been disclosed, it signifies a continuation of critical energy cooperation between the two countries.

The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has been actively securing electricity agreements with neighboring countries. In addition to the extended deal with Uzbekistan, Afghanistan reached an agreement with Tajikistan in late November and signed another deal with Turkmenistan on December 7.

Afghanistan’s electricity demand is estimated at 1,500 MW, according to the country’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources. Approximately 720 MW of this demand is met through imports, while the remainder is generated domestically.
