Early 20th century secrets unveiled as Uzbekistan declassifies archives

In the first quarter of 2024, 12 archives and 78 folders of documents from the pre-1917 period have been declassified.

In the last three months of 2024, the National Archive of Uzbekistan along with the State Archive of the Republic digitized 70.1 million frames on 1,030.0 thousand media carriers, the "Uzarxiv" Agency said at a press conference on May 2.

The conference also discussed the volume of declassified documents. It was reported that in accordance with established procedures, 12 archives and 78 folders of pre-1917 documents held by the State Security Service in the fund collection of the National Archive of Uzbekistan have been declassified and released for scholarly research.

Among them are:

- I-1 "Office of the Governor-General of Turkestan” (1868-1917) on 26 units of the fund’s storage;

- I-3 "Russian Imperial Political Agency in Bukhara” (1886-1918) on two units of the fund’s storage;

- I-5 "Office of the Zarafshan District Head” (1868-1886) on four units of the fund’s storage;

- I-16 on one unit of the fund's storage "Administration of People's Resettlement in the Syrdarya Region"; I-18 on five units of the fund's storage "Administration of the Samarkand Region";

- I-19 "Fergana Regional Administration” (1876-1917) on two units of the fund’s storage; -I-46 on two units of the fund's storage "Turkestan District Customs Administration;

– I-130 on one unit of the fund's storage "Court of the Samarkand Region"; I-194 "Patta Hissar Customs” (1894-1916) on seven units of the fund’s storage;

– I-278 "Prosecutor of the Samarkand Regional Court" on one unit of storage; I-715 Collection of materials on the publication of the document "Land of Turkestan," a document prepared by Colonel A.G. Serebryannikov on the history of its conquest (1839-1897) on 25 units of the fund’s storage;

- I-722 fund "Headquarters of the Turkestan Military District” (1865-1917) on one unit of storage.
