The first grant tranche in the amount of €6 million to support dekhkan farms has already been allocated.
The European Union has allocated a grant to the government of Uzbekistan for the development of agriculture. This was reported on the website of the EU delegation in the republic.
The money is allocated to support the National Strategy for Food Security and Healthy Eating. With the help of grant funds, it is planned to create a “market-oriented, sustainable agricultural and food sector” in the country.
The grant amount is €6 million (about 82 billion soums). By the end of 2025, the EU will allocate €20 million to Uzbekistan to implement the agricultural development strategy.
“Family farms produce most of the meat and vegetables consumed by Uzbeks. We are focusing on reforms that will allow peasant farms to prosper, adapt to climate change, protect the environment, produce healthy food and enter local and global value chains,” the EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Charlotte Adrian said.
The Ministry of Agriculture also received technical support in planning agricultural reforms. The initiative is part of the EU’s multi-year indicative program for Uzbekistan, under which the republic has received €76 million since 2021.
