The leadership of the ministry has been vacant since October 2023.
By the decree of the President of Uzbekistan, Kungirotboy Sharipov was confirmed as the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of Uzbekistan.
According to the presidential press service, Kungirotboy Sharipov's candidacy was approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis.
In 2009-2010 and 2017-2019, Kungirotboy Sharipov worked as the rector of the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, in 2010-2017, he was the first vice-rector for financial and economic affairs at this university, and since May 2019, he has worked as the first deputy minister of higher and secondary special education.
In November 2019, he was appointed rector of Tashkent State University of Economics.
It should be recalled that in December 2022, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education and the Ministry of Innovative Development were merged, and in January 2023, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov was appointed as the head of the new ministry.
